Chevron USA contributed a newly reformulated gasoline to Clean Fleet, a $10.7 million test project which involved five alternative fuels used to power a fleet of 113 Federal Express vehicles in the Los Angeles air basin.

Because of the number of fuels involved, and the number of major companies and government agencies participating in the Clean Fleet test, Chevron could have been lost in the shuffle. The LGI team carefully crafted a media strategy and press release emphasizing Chevron’s contribution and distributed it to targeted media outlets. The release was disseminated to key journalists.

The result was substantial coverage for Chevron and its role in local and regional media, as reflected by a United Press International story headlined "Chevron, Carmakers Launch Clean Fuels Tryout." The story began: "Chevron USA Products Co., and a coalition of car makers and agencies on Monday launched…"
