UCLA Center for Community Health

The Center for Community Health is an academic Center which seeks to influence health policies and practices that enhance the well being, development and quality of life for people at risk – including runaway and homeless youth, people impacted by HIV, families under stress, and children who have suffered abuse. The Center approached LGI Communications with a problem faced by many groups: the organization’s identity was solely tied to that of its founder – an exceptional research investigator, writer, and academic.

In response to this challenge, the LGI team created a new identity for the Center which focused on knitting together the diverse nature of its research projects and focused on its senior team as a whole. This new identity – or "brand" – also created a personality for the organization; one that focused less on the diseases and more on the at-risk populations it serves. This people-centric brand was supported with key messages that enhanced the Center’s credibility and range.

The LGI team used this positioning in the development of a series of products including a flexible information kit for use with multiple audiences (e.g., academics, practitioners, media). The team also researched and developed a customized database for the targeted dissemination of the kit.

Other LGI public health related success stories include the National Mental Health Association, Next Generation Tobacco Control Alliance, and many others.
